Headaches, neck pain and the dizzy patient are all a part of the daily business in a chiropractic clinic. Mostly it's routine stuff but the cervical spine neuralgias can be more severe than any other part of the body. It's usually far worse than a slipped disc in the low back, for example.

This is a website enabling you to understand your condition from a different perspective; one that tried to avoid you having to regress to using drugs or surgery.
What do we have to offer you if you have a slipped disc, or jaw joint pain, or ankle joint pain, for example, if we don't recommend medication? Is it really possible to have a future without migraine analgesics? Here you will find it all, and the name of a chiropractor in your neck of the woods.
Subluxations in the neck are can have severe repercussions for the spinal cord. Pain down the arm, vertigo, severe headaches, and sometimes very unusual signs and symptoms. This week I had a middle aged patient with the most severe neck pain I've seen in over a year, with increased reflexes in her left arm.
Normally I would decline to adjust such a patient, except that a neurologist and an othopaedist could find nothing wrong. She had a normal scan. Increased reflexes are weighed with great circumspection. Happily, after only one adjustment, she had 70 percent less pain, and one of the reflexes has returned to normal. I wonder what tomorrow will yield? Subluxations can have profound neurological effects.
Here's an update; she has almost no pain after two treatments, but the reflexes are still not normal. Interprofessional cooperation is vital.
That's only an anecdote, by the way; they carry no weight.
Few conditions are worse than vertigo; a wildly spinning world accompanied by nausea and sometimes vomiting. Ask before making an appointment, but your chiropractor may have attended a course on the Epley manoeuvres; neither medication nor a spinal adjustment of the neck are indicated for this nasty condition.
You may want to use the search tab to look up a home remedy for vertigo too.
Midback and rib pain treatment are also a daily affair in chiropractic clinics. Whether it's the aftermath of a condition called Scheuermann's disease that begins in the teenage years, causing poor posture and a continuous ache, or the sharp pain with every breath from a sprung rib, you'll find a local chiropractor who can care for your discomfort.
Scheuermann's disease unfortunately we cannot cure and you will most likely need the occasional but regular care of any and all chronic conditions. Medicine cannot cure your diabetes, and neither can your chiropractor cure this osteochondrosis, as it's known. Both need exercise and careful management.
But a subluxated rib head causing excruciating pain responds very quickly to chiropractic care. Left untreated it leaves you with a dull ache that may never go away, and you run the risk of a condition called Tietzes syndrome; breastbone pain.
One of the more interesting conditions is a subluxated twelfth rib on the right; is it a gallbladder condition, or a painful rib?
Because the diaphragm muscle is attached to the lower ribs, indigestion and heartburn may be related to your rib condition.
So, subluxated ribs can cause severe midback pain and a nasty breastbone condition that commonly is confused with angina, if it's affecting the ribs on the left. The Tietzes Syndrome CaseFile below will explain all.
Can the elderly have chiropractic rib pain treatment? Absolutely, but your chiropractor will alter his techniques, and be a great deal more gentle. Most chiropractors have cracked a rib or two but it's rare; my own blemished record is one every four years. But almost every patient has an adjustment for a rib condition, so that makes it very rare; still I'm not proud of them and most could and should have been avoided.
Research indicates that 60 percent of your chiropractor's time is taken up with lower back pain and conditions like a posterior lateral disk herniation. Other research reported in many medical journals agree that manipulation is far better than bed rest and medication for lower back and leg pain. Better still is a combination of chiropractic and exercise.
Don't frustrate your chiropractor by stopping care once the acute phase of lower back pain is over. In the first place fifty percent less pain is the dangerous time as it won't have healed in a week or two by more than ten percent; and secondly, if you don't go through with the rehabilitative exercises, research shows you'll have another episode in a few months.
Just the same as if you don't make lifestyle changes you'll surely get cancer again or have another heart attack or stroke; when your body starts to tell you that all is not well in the state of Denmark, ring in the changes, or suffer the misery of a relapse.
This is especially true of the postero medial disk
herniation; that's the lateral's first cousin, but it responds much more
quickly, but both take six weeks for that annulus fibrosis to heal.

New research just released in the medical journal Stroke reveals that taking oral anti inflammatory drugs, including
aspirin, increases your risk of having a stroke by a staggering 20 to 260 percent.
For example, after ankle fracture, once the bones have healed, think chiropractic rather than anti inflammatory drugs for pain and to restore the movement, get the swelling down and rehabilitate the muscles. You don't want to get what's known as Functional Disability. A chronically weak ankle can make a misery of your former lifestyle; no more hiking, no more Saturday afternoon tennis and even a stroll around the garden can result in a turned ankle.
Whilst chiropractors are not against medication in principle, we think they are used far too much when there are better and safer alternatives. Did you know that two hundred thousand people die every year in the United States from the side effects of drugs? Read more at our iatrogenic illness page; again, use the search tab.
Yes, there is such a thing as chiropractic iatrogenic illness but it's usually short term after treatment pain and of little consequence. Just compare the malpractice premiums of chiropractors and medical doctors; it tells a story.
You'll receive many healthy living tips from your chiropractor Bellville Durbanville Edgemead Kenridge Panorama Plattekloof.
Living on the verge of such healthy foods, do you enjoy olive oil benefits and delicious healthy fish soup regularly? Do you understand the cholesterol alcohol link?
Don't underestimate the influence of eating anti inflammatory foods on a daily basis on your overall health. It's not just less back and muscle pain, but also blood vessels that are less inflamed.
As a prominent heart surgeon says, return to the food that your grandmother prepared and not the junk the supermarkets serve up these days. He notes that despite all the anti inflammatory drugs and statins people are taking, the switch to margarine from butter, blood vessels are more angry looking than ever, when viewed from the inside.
