Pain in my lower back

by Cathy
(Calgary)

I hurt my back about 5 months ago fr work and physio told me I strained my muscle.I had my physio for 8 weeks after the incident but until now the pain is still there.I'm still doing stretches and strengthening exercise but nothing happen. What should I do?

Hello Cathy,
Injured on duty perhaps needs to be treated differently from other injuries. Have you seen your medical doctor? Does the physio have the training and experience to make a diagnosis?

Of course, overall, it's been shown that doctors make the correct diagnosis less than 50% of the time. Chiropractors and physios alike, I would presume.

One would suspect that your physio made the wrong diagnosis. After two months, a muscle problem should be over.

So, where are you? Firstly you are correct in now looking elsewhere. Perhaps should have done so a little earlier, but that's water under the bridge.

Two questions: were X-rays taken, and what do they show? And secondly, did your physio presribe exercises, and are you doing them faithfully?

Do this little test: slump test for sciatica ... Do you get pain in the back, or leg?

Now bend forwards, backwards and to the side. What happens? Let me know.

Thank you so much for replying Dr.B. My Dr.didn't request for an x-ray at that time. I just have a request for a physio. That time I couldn't bend but now it's ok.I don't have any pain on my leg.

The only thing is that the pain always comes back.Massage can help and stretches as well. But there is a part in my right lower back that I always pressed that it's sore. I remember what the physio told me that it won't go away its gonna be there. So he mean to say I'll gonna suffer this my whole life?I'm thinking of seeing a chiropractor now cause I want to have my old self back.

Hello Cathy,
I can't promise you that you'll get you old back back, but when you realise that your GP and physio have nothing more to offer than lifelong pain, then it's time to think outside of the box.

Do the exercises at C=H faithfully. They do make a difference.
