Stiff neck, tingling hands and arms and numbness right side of face
by Philippa
(Devon)
I went to the GP at the beginning of March with tingling arms and a stiff neck. He said he thought I had a pinched nerve and the symptoms would disappear, and to try a back and neck massage. I did this, but after that the right side of my face went numb. I went back to my GP at the end of a March who still thought pinched nerve, but referred me to a neurologist.
My appointment is not until June and I am getting worried as the numbness is from my eye down the side of my face and affecting my lips and tongue. This has not improved at all since the onset. Would I benefit from seeing a chiropractor? Many thanks.
Hello Philippa,
The time has come to take your husband with you, and jump up and down at the doctor's office.
My recommendation is, perhaps oddly, no chiropractic until a diagnosis has been established. A pinched nerve in your neck will not affect your face.
Try and establish which part of your tongue is numb, and is there any disturbance of taste. Sweet or sour?
If you protrude your tongue, does it go straight?
What's needed is further tests, and you have every reason to be concerned.
Let me know what comes of it.
I hope this contributes.
