Tingling on left foot and numbness
by Pankaj sood

Sir, I am having tingling in the lower part of my left foot lower and at the ankle due to a L4 injury and the doctor advised me three weeks complete rest.
I have completed 13 days rest but the tingling is still in my left foot. Please let me know how I should lie on the bed and what should I do. Can I go to toilet once a day. Please give detailed information.
Hello Pankaj,
Alas the research suggests that pure bed rest is not very helpful for an injury of this nature; in fact, unless you have a lot of pain when standing, it may make it worse.
But you make no mention of pain.
To begin with, I would start our lower back exercises. Do them gently every half an hour, remembering they shouldn't cause any pain.
Every hour it would be good to get up and walk about the house, go to the toilet, make tea and so on. Try to avoid much sitting, and bending. Go down on one knee if you need to pick something up from the floor.
Watch out for the development of any weakness in the big toe.
Is the leg much tighter if you do the Flip test?
I hope this helps.
