Hello,
The lateral femoral cutaneous nerve is a sensory nerve so not motor weakness will occur if you don't take the pills. Frankly, if they're not helping, the damage from the pills is likely to be worse than any effect from not taking them.
The pills are treating the symptoms, not the cause, that's why they are not working. Two areas need to be addressed, firstly the groin where the nerve emerges, and this you may be able to do yourself. Use your thumb and a little oil and punish yourself, being careful of the femoral artery.
The second area is more difficult for you. Meralgia paresthetica usually has a mid to upper lumbar spine component. The best you can do is the exercises for a first cousin condition called maignes syndrome. You'll find a link to the exercises at this page.
Maignes syndrome exercises. I hope this contributes.
